My husband couldn't walk across the room without asking me for directions while we were married. He's Mr Man of Action when he wants out though. Got a lawyer and filed the divorce papers behind my back. He actually filled out a change of address form too. I'm shocked he even knows what the post office is. I don't believe he ever mailed a bill the whole time we've been married. I have to admit that it stung a little to get the change of address confirmation in the mail. Was it hurt? No, I think it was bitterness that he was so fucking unmotivated when we were married, he let me do everything. Who knows what he will accomplish next? Wrapping a Christmas present? Packing one of the kid's lunches?
Let me paint a picture for you. Around 17 years ago my father in law cheated on my mother in law for years, I mean YEARS. They got a divorce and my husband hasn't seen his father for about five or six years. (You lose track after a while.) He's maybe talked to him twice during that time. My husband's sister still has a semi-relationship with her father so she told him about my husband's cheating heart. My father in law got angry and asked how could he do that, that's horrible! I can only imagine the WTF in my sister in law's voice when she said, 'Dad, you did the same thing!'
'But you kids were older,' he reasoned, 'not little! And I'm not even sure I made the right decision back then.' So I guess there's a certain age that your kids should be before you commit adultery and rip your family apart. And it doesn't always turn out happily ever after. I wish my father in law had shared the Cheaters handbook with my husband. One more reason why I'm very disappointed in my father in law.
My dad came today to mow my lawn. 68 years old and he's pushing a mower because he feels bad for me since my husband ran off to find his happiness. Hate for my husband ran high today. 'What does your husband want out of life?' my dad asked. 'He had a good wife, two great kids, a new house.' To hear my father call me a good wife is amazing. He barely could remember my name growing up. For the first few years of my life I thought I was a southerner and had a string of three names - Sally Sara Kay. My mom's, my sister's, and my name all merged together. Who knew my father would be the hero in the seriocomedy of my life right now.
My father (and my husband) are both prejudiced against African Americans. My father is a small town New Englander, old and ignorant, that's not a pass to be prejudiced, of course, but he's my Dad. My husband on the other hand is just a racist asshole. My father said to me as he was leaving, 'I hope when your husband comes over one day, your boyfriend answers the door and he's 7 feet tall and HE'S BLACK.' And then he laughed maniacally for a long time. Yup, my dad really does love me and he REALLY hates my husband.
And I'm not prejudiced by the way. I work in Human Resources at a college. Doesn't get more diverse than that. And I'd love to date a black man. I have my eye on one right now. Donny Marshall (announcer for the Celtics). I used to teasingly call him my boyfriend and it would drive my husband crazy. Must be he was the only one allowed to have an alternative significant other while we were married. Donny, call me when my divorce is final. If you're married, skip it though, because I don't roll that way. I'll just keep drooling over my tv.
Your dad sounds amazing! It is nice that your family can love and hate people when you need them to. It makes it easier on you.
